Achsa Maynard Johnson
This portrait depicts Achsa Maynard Johnson (1791-1882).
She was the daughter of Moses Maynard, a prominent landholder. Achsa Maynard married Orange Johnson in 1815. Johnson was a comb maker by trade, but eventually became involved in the Sandusky to Columbus Turnpike and the Commercial National Bank in Columbus along with other enterprises. In 1816, the couple moved into the building that now serves as the Orange Johnson House Museum of the Worthington Historical Society. It is located at 956 High Street. Achsa and Orange Johnson had three children. They lived in Worthington until 1862, when they joined their only surviving child, Mary Johnson Sessions, in her home in downtown Columbus.
