The following are the unofficial 'highlights' of the most recent Village Council meeting.
The Mayor reported that Worthington investigated the feasibility of a 315 sound barrier and found that the neighborhoods closest to the freeway do not meet the decibels needed for it, so there is no need to look into it further.
Council discussed the possibility of surveying residents by using the internet and the need for residents who do not use the internet to be able to participate. They will continue to investigate this to see what can be done that is easy and fair.
The Mayor would like to use the Village's website to post emergency information. He said there could be something flashing on the website to draw attention to it. The possibility of notifying residents by phone was also discussed. Council would like the new Communications Committee to look at this.
The solicitation ordinance was discussed at length. In light of recent court decisions, the Village's ordinance needs to be updated. Solicitation restrictions may create legal liabilities for the Village. Council decided that it would be best to simplify the ordinance so that residents can post no solicitation and then call the police if someone violates it and to no longer require permits. This is another issue for the Communications Committee.
The Street Commissioner reported that he is looking at estimates for getting the streets swept twice a year - in late spring and late fall. The SSES report has been completed.
The Newsletter Editor is working on an update to the directory.
Resolution 2012-04 A Resolution to Create Committees to Support the Work of Village Council to Appoint Members Thereto was approved. The following were appointed:
Committee on Ordinances - Jenny Jones, Chair.
Scott Gordon, Jacalyn Slemmer, Michael Jones and Carolee Noonan as members.
Committee on Infrastructure - Briggs Hamor, Chair.
Eric MacGilvray, Bill Charles, Chris Bedell and Marc Benevento as members.
Committee on Communications - Jon Ankrom, Chair.
Jody Croley Jones, Greg Bonk and Lois Yoakam as members.
The Mayor said he hopes more residents will come forward to participate on these committees.
Ordinance 01-2012 An Ordinance to Approve a Modification and Realignment of Ordinance 04-2011, the Annual Appropriation Ordinance (Village) was passed.
Council agreed to save money with a three year contract for the lift station flow monitoring instead of a one year contract.
Council approved up to $300 for the Easter Egg Hunt. The Mayor is looking for someone to organize it.
