Update to the last Street Work Update, per conversation w/ Louis McFarland @
2:30 pm, Tue 9.14.10
Tue 09/14/10 - Decker Construction should complete mill and fill patchwork on
all village streets. Decker is not yet working on the storm catch basin
repairs at 5800 Olentangy Blvd -- this will not happen until after the SAMI
work is completed.
Wed 09/15/10 - American Pavements still plans to apply the SAMI (stress
absorbing
membrane interlayer) on both W. Riverglen and W. Southington. They will likely
start at the upper east end of W. Riverglen at High St and work westward to
Olentangy, and then proceed to W. Southington in similar fashion. No Parking
signs for Wed 9/15/10 will be posted along both streets today (9/13).
The SAMI is constructed of a polymer modified bituminous binder and 100% crushed
stone overlay, similar to the SPARS treatment. Unlike slurry seal, it requires
only a very short cure time before traffic can pass over (normally within 15 to
30 minutes following application). However, this will necessitate short term
closure of street segments, so intermittent detours through the cross streets
will be necessary while the crew works it's way along these two streets. Also,
until final slurry seal is applied, the surface will rough and a bit gravely,
and passing traffic will probably kick up some dust. Per spec, final slurry seal
can follow no sooner than 24 hours after SAMI is laid.
At this point, American Pavements is saying the slurry seal work is still two
weeks away (likely to happen the week of 9/27).
The first two truckloads of crushed stone delivery for tomorrow's SAMI work was
mistakenly dumped at the dead end of Melbourne, instead of at the dead end of
Olentangy. The remaining loads are being now being dumped at the proper
location. This was the delivery driver's mistake as he had a map clearly
showing where the loads were to be dumped. This mistake has somewhat limited
the access to the driveways near the dead end of Melbourne, but the residents
can get in and out as the driveways are not blocked. American Pavements has
contacted the residents and apologized for this mistake and assured them that
the crushed stone will be cleared out first thing tomorrow morning (9/15)when
the SAMI work starts.
American Pavements has notified Worthington Schools of the work plan for
Wednesday. Work should not affect the morning bus routes, but may interfere
with the mid-day and/or afternoon runs, depending on how things progress.
Louis McFarland of B&N (our engineer) will be on site tomorrow
observing/inspecting the work and keeping me appraised of its progress and any
problems encountered.
