A Resolution of Appreciation to MaryJo Cusack for her Service to the Risidents of the Village of Riverlea, Ohio
Introduced by Mr. McHugh
WHEREAS, Mary Jo Cusack will soon complete twenty-two continuous years of elected service to the residents of the Village of Riverlea, Ohio, including the last eight years as Mayor; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jo Cusack has generously and selflessly given her time and talents to further the interests of the Village’s residents, and to promote the interests of the Village with officials from the City of Worthington, Sharon Township, Franklin County, the State of Ohio, and other neighboring public bodies and communities; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jo Cusack has sought to address difficult issues facing the Village, and in so doing has provided attentive leadership to promote the common wealth; and
WHEREAS, in these and other efforts, Mary Jo Cusack has provided considered, thoughtful and measured leadership, counsel and commentary to the Council, to other Village officials, and to the citizenry, all with a remarkable spirit of collegiality, and has thereby exemplified the ideal of public service.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved By The Council of the Village of Riverlea, Ohio, That:
Section 1. On behalf of the citizens of the Village of Riverlea, Ohio, the Village Council hereby offers its gratitude, appreciation and thanks to Mary Jo Cusack for her years of service on the Village Council and as Mayor of the Village of Riverlea and for her dedication and efforts on behalf of the residents of the community.
Section 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the earliest date permitted by law. Pursuant to Section 731.25, Ohio Revised Code, the Council of the Village of Riverlea hereby determines that publication of this Resolution in a newspaper is unnecessary and does hereby determine that this Resolution shall be published by posting copies hereof in the five places which are determined to be the five most public places in the Village of Riverlea, Ohio.
AND being seconded by Messrs. Ankrom, Gordon, Griffin, Hamor, and MacGilvray, and the requirement to read the same on three separate days having been waived, said Resolution was duly ADOPTED this 19th day of December, 2011.

Draft highlights from the Dec. 19, 2011 Council meeting
Mayor. Expressed condolences to the family of Bettie Surface who recently passed away.
Solicitor. There will be two vacancies on Council at the next meeting; distributed a memo to Council explaining how the vacancies can get filled.
Marshal. Reported 312 checks with no warnings or citations issued.
Planning Commissioner. A Certificate of Appropriateness application at 5809 Olentangy Boulevard for an addition in the back and an open front porch was approved.
Street Commissioner. Reported an overflow problem two weeks ago. He corrected it in under 1.5 hours. The second pump did not kick
in. Report made to the Ohio EPA.
Web Manager. Many hits in November, may have been due to the annexation issue. She asked if more recent meeting information could go up on the web site; Clerk to prepare brief highlights.

Resolution No. 2011-11, Authorizing the Mayor to Enter into a Contract with the City of Columbus for Legal Representation in Certain Criminal and Traffic Cases; approved.

Ordinance 05-2011 to Approve a Modification and Realignment of Ordinance 03-2010, the Annual Appropriation Ordinance (Village); approved.

Resolution No. 2011-16 to Confirm the Appointment of Mike Jones as a Member of the Planning Commission; approved.

Resolution No. 2011-15 to Provide for Engineering Services to Support a Capacity, Management, Operation and Maintenance Program; approved.

Resolution No. 2011-14, of Appreciation to Mary Jo Cusack for Her Service to the Residents of the Village of Riverlea, Ohio; approved.
Village telephone. The Clerk-Treasurer reported that Google Voice did not port land line phone numbers. Council decided to go with a new phone number with Google Voice since it was free and to cancel the AT&T phone service.
Web Manager pay. The Mayor reported the Budget Committee discussed a possible increase in the Web Manager’s pay since the web site has grown in popularity and importance. Council will discuss this at the next Council meeting.
Trash increase. Local Waste Services is increasing their fees from $13.04 to $14.28 per home due to SWACO landfill fee increases, which affects all trash companies.
Entrance light. The light at the Southington entrance is no longer working and an electrician may be needed.
Street sign at Southington and Crescent is missing. The Street Commissioner said he has a pole and the Southington sign but needs to order a Crescent sign along with the top finial. Adjournment: 8:40 pm.
In memory of
Residents were saddened to learn of the death of
Elizabeth Surface (Bettie), December 8, 2011. She was born August 8, 1929, in Tama, Iowa. Bettie is survived by her husband of 58 years,
Richard E. Surface; children,
Kimberlee (Dennis) Doherty,
Andrea Surface, and
Taylor (Suzanne) Surface (also Riverlea residents) and several grandchildren. Bettie also worked for many years as a classified employee of the Worthington School system. After retirement she served for several years as a volunteer at HomeReach Hospice. A funeral was held December 16, 2011, at the Worthington Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and on the Sacristy Guild. As many have noted, she was a lovely person who lit up a room.
Meet new residents
John and Erin Kingrey,
222 West Riverglen, moved from Cincinnati into Riverlea in June. John is currently a pulmonary/critical care fellow at OSU who grew up in Dayton. In his spare time he loves OSU football and dreams of having time to play basketball and ride his bike regularly.
Erin is originally from Portland, Oregon. She enjoys helping at the girls' schools, reading, and exploring new places. She has worked as a writer, travel agent, Citizenship teacher to immigrants, and history tutor. She looks forward to settling on what she's wants to do when she grows up, hopefully before the kids do. Until then, she considers herself lucky to be a stay-at-home mom.
John and Erin have three daughters: Rachael (9); Jane (6); and Sarah (3). The girls love playing with the friends they've made in the neighborhood, riding their bikes, and dancing.
Mike and Kathy McClintock, 171 Riverglen, moved from Greenville, SC to Riverlea in June 2011. They have extended family in Cincinnati and Columbus. They fell in love with the area amenities including proximity to downtown, the great public school system as Payton enters the 7th grade and, of course, walking distance to Old Bag, Graeter's and Saturday morning market. They spent their childhood years in NY and NJ. Daughter Payton is a passionate equestrian, active geocacher and babysitter who enjoys Kilbourne Middle School. She ran cross-country looks forward to some beginner agility training with Hazel, one of the two family mutts (the other is Hank).
The family welcomes the challenges of an older house and looks forward to updates and changes that will make it their home while keeping its overall look and feel quite original from the curb.

Recently a deer was hit by a car and killed on Dover Ct. For the removal of a dead deer, contact the Worthington Police who maintain a list of people want the carcass. Tell the dispatcher that you are aware of this list and would like someone to come out and collect the carcass.

Trash Collection Schedule
Regular Riverlea collection day is Monday. Local Waste Services observes six holidays. If the holiday falls on Monday, collection is the next day of that week. The holiday schedule follows:
