The purpose of this guide is to highlight some of the more important or most requested information. This is not intended to answer all of your questions, so please feel free to contact anyone on Council.
Council meets at 7:00 pm on the third Monday of each month at the Thomas Worthington High School. All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The Riverlea News is published and mailed monthly when Council meets. Current information is also available on 5 bulletin boards located throughout the Village and on the Web site.
The Village publishes the Riverlea Directory listing the names, addresses and phone numbers of the Mayor, Council members and other officials. It also contains the Council meeting schedule, trash collection schedule and information about our services, activities and laws of general interest.
Trash Service
Trash collection day is on Monday. If a holiday falls on Monday, collection is the next day. The schedule is published in the Directory, the Newsletter and on the Web site.
Place trash at the curb (not in the street) by 7:00 am on scheduled trash day.
Cover and/or secure trash.
Tie tree-trimmings in bundles not to exceed 48 inches in length.
Put out trash no more than one day prior to the collection day.
Remove empty containers by the following morning and store them out of sight.
Recycle Program
Materials are picked up same day as trash collection.
Put all recyclables in containers labeled "RECYCLE."
Place recycle containers away from trash containers with contents secured.
Rinse food from containers.
Recyclables:
Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, cardboard, cereal boxes
Plastic with the recycle numbers of 1 or 2, lids removed
Aluminum cans, steel/tin cans
Glass containers, any color
Signs
Please be aware that the Village does restrict the display of signs. Therefore, before placing any signs within the Village, either call someone on Council or refer to the sign ordinance (Title XV, Section 152). All signs must be placed at least 10 feet from the curb.

Home Improvement / Maintenance
Contact the Planning Commissioner if you plan any exterior change to your home or property to see if a Certificate of Appropriateness or permit is required. This includes erecting a fence or wall, and installing a driveway apron (approach). The Web site contains information and forms for a Certificate of Appropriateness.
Even if a permit or certificate is not required, our Planning Commissioner is a wealth of information that could be very beneficial to you and your project.
Vehicles Parked on Village Streets (Our biggest source for complaints.)
Do not stop or park a motor vehicle upon any street for longer than 48 hours.
No vehicle may display a "For Sale" sign while parked on the street.
Commercial vehicles or trailers are prohibited from parking on the street longer than an hour unless they are being used to perform a service.
Do not park house trailers more than 24 hours unless confined within an enclosure to obstruct its view from the streets.
Autumn Leaves
It is up to the residents to bag their leaves and put them out with their trash.
Mention Riverlea when buying Auto License Tags
Make sure Riverlea is the taxing district (2520) so that some of the money (your money) will go to the Village.
Snow Removal
Please move parked cars off of the street after 2 inches of snowfall so the plow can clear the street.
When shoveling or clearing your driveway, do not throw snow into the street.
Garage Sales
No permit is necessary.
Locate garage sale signs only on the property hosting the sale. They are permitted only one day before the sale and on the day of the garage sale. They must be located 10 feet from the curb.
Dog Walking (Dog Waste)
Pick up after your dog and dispose of it properly. Please do not dispose of waste in neighbor’s trash can or in the storm
Dogs must be controlled at all times and not allowed more than 10 feet from the curb onto private property without the owner’s permission.
Portable storage Units (PODs) & Dumpsters
Please be aware that there are use, location and time restrictions on these.Planning Commissioner Contact the Planning Commissioner prior to obtaining a dumpster or portable storage unit.
